Native from the Himalayas to Japan. A twining climber with a
spindle-shaped root. Solitary, bell-shaped yellow to olive green flowers
in summer. Important Chinese medicine herb; roots can be used as a
substitute for Ginseng. Internally for low energy, poor appetite, and
digestion, anaemia, shallow breathing and debility after illness. Grows in
light, well-drained soil.
